Donald Woodman

Woodman's therapist series is really interesting. He spend four years documenting his therapy sessions and used 1 Polaroid exposure per session. There are some that are much creepier so go to www.donaldwoodman.com and sink your teeth in. Props, Don.

  1. These are really original and interesting, I've never seen work done like this before, especially the last two photos. Its amazing to see the subject acting normal and just sitting in a chair and then see the naked body of a man stamped all over the picture. It makes me wonder what the artist was trying to say and how they actually did that effect without using a computer program. I'm really excited to see your work in comparison to this =]

  2. How in the world did he do this with polaroids?!? I'm fascinated. He must have had a pretty amazing relationship with his therapist. I looked through the additional prints on your link and would really love to see his project chronologically to see how it developed over the years. I can't wait to see what you've done with this project!

  3. Yeah seriously, how were these done with polariods? I loved these the second I saw them because they really just capture that freaking terrifying feeling that comes with being in therapy and self analyzing while being analyzed. The expressions of the therapist are incredibly disturbing despite the fact that the environment is supposed to be comfortable.

  4. I also am intrigued as to how he managed this with polaroids, and excited to see how you recreate the effect! I spent a while looking through the rest of the series, which was very freaky and very cool. I'm wondering now what school of psychology Dr. Donald subscribed too, and weather that influenced the photos.

  5. The framing of these photos is really interesting, like there is a corroded picture frame around the edges. I wonder if that's because they are Polaroids? Regardless, it adds a lot.

  7. When looking through the whole therapist series, the photographers work is very interesting and I like how he explores with the overlapping images of him and his therapist. It definitely shows a interesting relationship between the patient and the doctor.

  8. I just looked the website and everything amazed me...there is one photo looks like that it printed from a destroyed negative. I think that one is the most creepy photo in the whole series.
